Christina Mattern 1920 - 2010

Christina Mattern PhotoChristina Mattern, 90, Minot, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in a Minot nursing home.

Christina Miller was born on April 15, 1920, a daughter of John and Christine (Dexheimer) Miller in Devils Lake, ND. Her father died when she was two years, and from the age of 11, was raised by Sebastian and Mary Kuntz.

On January 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Roy Mattern. Following their marriage, they made their home in Deering, ND where they farmed, later moving to Pierce County where they farmed until 1958, when they moved to Minot. Christina began working for St. Joseph’s Hospital in the housekeeping department, retiring after 26 years. Roy died in 1974. She continued to live in Minot.

She was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot and the ladies aid group. Christina enjoyed Bingo, cards, especially pinochle and whist, working with her garden and flowers.

Those who shared in her life:   Son, John (Gail) Mattern, Minot; daughter: Marie (Albert) Galipeau, Chepachet, RI; six grandchildren: Jim Mattern, Samantha Mattern, Jewell Mattern, Brian Galipeau, Bruce Galipeau, Darryl Galipeau; five great-grandchildren; brother: Curt Hasse, Devils Lake, ND; sister: Eugenia Hintz, Del City, OK; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Christina was preceded in death by her parents, her foster parents, husband and two brothers Anton and George and three sisters Katie, Theresa and Cecilia.

Visitation: Friday, May 28, 2010 from 2-7 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service:  Friday, May 28, 2010 at 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 9:30 am at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial park, Minot

Immediately following the graveside service everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, located at 707 16th Ave SW. The fellowship hall is located in the lower level of the church.

The Mattern family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Christina.
