Oscar E. "Pug" Matte, 83, Bowbells, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Pug was born December 3, 1925 at Bowbells, ND to Elsor and Frances (Seimers) Matte, the oldest of five children. He grew up on a farm northeast of Bowbells and attended country school in that area.

He entered the United States Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota.

Pug married Joyce "Tudy" Peterson on November 5, 1949 in Bowbells.

He had many jobs throughout the years, including working at the Country Shop, working for John Kock, R. C. Wiper, at the Ford Garage and later the Highway Department where he retired in August of 1988.

Pug enjoyed fishing, camping, skiing, yard work, gardening, tending to his dog, Mitzy and he loved his grandchildren. He was a member of United Methodist Church and the American Legion, Carl Oftedahl Post #127, both Bowbells.

Those who shared in his life, Wife, Joyce; son, Greg (Barb) Matte, all of Bowbells; granddaughter, Jennifer (Mike) Vuichard, Cedar Rapids, IA; grandson, Michael Matte, Bowbells; sisters, Rose (LaVern) Hanson, Sis (Eddie) Peterson; brother, Larry (Sue) Matte, all of Bowbells; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pug was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy; grandson, Jeff; his parents and brother, Babe.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Bowbells, ND.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the guest register Wednesday one hour prior to the service in the church.

Burial: Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.
