Joyce A. "Tudy" Matte 1930 - 2009

Joyce A. "Tudy" Matte, 78, Bowbells, ND, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Tudy was born December 3, 1930, to Louie and Carol (Thompson) Peterson in Lucy Township, Burke County, ND. She was raised eight miles west of Bowbells. Tudy attended school at Flaxton, Woburn and graduated from Coteau High School. She worked for the Soil Conservation planting trees and also worked as a cook for several area farmers.

On November 5, 1949, Tudy married Oscar "Pug" Matte in Bowbells. They made their home in Flaxton before moving to Bowbells. While in Bowbells, Tudy owned and operated the City Café, the first two years with her sister, Marion Swenson. She also owned and operated the Food Mart in Bowbells for two years. Tudy continued to run the café until the 1990's. Her husband Pug died April 26, 2009.

She was a member of United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both in Bowbells.

Those who shared in her life, son, Greg (Barb) Matte, Bowbells; granddaughter, Jennifer (Mike) Vuichard, Cedar Rapids, IA; grandson, Michael Matte, Bowbells; brothers and sisters, Marion Swenson and Butch (Janette) Peterson, all of Bowbells, Roberta "Bobbi" Rolle, Dickinson, ND, and Calvin (Enrika) Peterson, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tudy was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar "Pug" Matte; daughter, Kathy; grandson, Jeff; her parents, Louie and Carol; sister and brother-in-law, Sis and Babe Matte; brothers-in-law, Donald Swenson and Howard Rolle.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Bowbells, ND.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the guest register Tuesday, one hour prior to the service in the church.

Burial: Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.
