Ottilla Marzolf 1918 - 2011 Ottilla Gartner was born on January 30, 1918, a daughter of Jacob and Christina (Gienger) Gartner in rural Kramer, ND. She was raised and educated in Kramer, where she graduated from high school in 1936. On June 5, 1936, Ottilla was united in marriage to Andy Marzolf at Zion Lutheran Church in Kramer. They made their home in Kramer, ND where Ottilla worked at the grocery store until 1958, when they moved to Minot. She worked for Van Saunders at Minot Drug store until 1969. Andy died August 5, 1974. Ottilla began working for White Drug in the cosmetics department in 1969 until her retirement in 1993. Ottilla was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Minot. In 1994, Ottilla received the Eagle Sister of the Year award and in 2001 was honored with the Mrs. Eagle Award. Ottilla enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, specializing in wedding cakes. She treated family and friends to specialized birthday cakes. Ottilla spent endless hours knitting and doing embroidery and won many ribbons at the North Dakota State Fair with her intricate doilies and beautiful afghans. She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Our “little Ottilla” had a big heart and playful spirit and especially treasured times spent with family and friends. Ottilla is survived by: Her son Brian, Lake Mary, FL; Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Joshua (Karla) Marzolf and their children William, and Kylie, Orlando, FL; Jada Marzolf, Orlando, FL, Wyatt Marzolf, Superior, WI, Amanda Marzolf and her children Lily and Kane, Virginia, MN; Madison Marzolf, and Andrew Marzolf, both of Cloquet, MN; sister: Martha Gravseth, Souris, ND; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ottilla was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Marvin Gartner and an infant sister (twin sister to Martha). Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however, people may sign a guest register on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Service: Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10:30 am at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot Officiant: Rev. David Maxfield Music Honorary Bearers: Ottilla’s grandchildren Immediately following the memorial service, everyone is invited to join the family in the lower level of the church for lunch and fellowship. The Marzolf family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
