Dorothy "Dottie" Marter-Croy, 84, of Minot, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 in Trinity Hospital.

Dorothy Witt was born October 2, 1924 in Belleville, Kansas to Raymond and Ollie (Canfield) Witt. Her stepfather was George Doctor, who she loved dearly. Dorothy graduated from high school in Nebraska.

She married John "Jack" Marter. With Jack in the Air Force the family lived at many different Air Force bases overseas and eventually came to the Minot Air Force Base in 1958. While there she worked at the BX and later worked at Behm's Propane in Minot, from 1961 to 1975. Her husband Jack passed away January 16, 1969.

Dorothy married Ernest Croy and they lived in California, Missouri and Florida. Ernest passed away August 8, 1995. She moved back to Minot and resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Robert Behm.

Dorothy was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot, the Serra Club, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Her greatest joy these last few years was spending time at Lake Metigoshe and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was so proud to be called "Grandma Great" by them. Dorothy had a great devotion to God. She was a wonderful lady who will be deeply missed.

Those who shared in her life, daughter, Jacqueline (Robert) Behm, Minot; son, Michael (Dawn) Marter, Bismarck; stepson, Larry (Pam) Croy of Florida; granddaughters, Maria (Ray) Thompson and Raquel (Corey) Marter; grandsons, Lance (Stephanie) Behm, BJ Behm and Todd Behm, Jason Marter and Justin (Anna) Marter, Jay (Bridget) Marter; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Avery Behm, Hailee Dawn Marter, Vivian Behm, Breyanna, Stephan, Devan, William and Chasitie Thompson; brother-in-law, Marvin Cherney, Wayne, KS; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Marter and Ernest Croy; parents, Ollie and George Doctor; son, James Marter; brother, Raymond Witt; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie (Manford) Scraper; sister-in-law, Jackie Witt; granddaughter, Chandie Behm.

Funeral: Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Wednesday, January 28, 2009, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. There will be no reviewal Thursday prior to the service in the church.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
