Malone 1910 - 2003 Lawrence R. "Larry" Malone, 92, Glenburn, ND, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, in a Minot nursing care facility. Lawrence was born on September 27, 1910, in Glenburn, to John and Catherine (Allen) Malone. He was raised and educated in the Glenburn area. Lawrence farmed with his father and helped area neighbors. He often hired out the use of his horses as well. He volunteered for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), working on the north unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in southwest North Dakota. He entered the United States Army, and served during World War II. He was a member of the 692nd Field Artillery Headquarters Battery from 1942 to 1946. He spent 23 months stateside and 16 months in Europe. During his time in Europe, he was able to make a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. He was honorably discharged from the service on January 10, 1946. He married Alice Maria Keefe on February 19, 1946, in Santa Paula, CA. They moved back to North Dakota and settled in Glenburn. He continued his farming operation for several years before going into construction. Lawrence worked for several contractors and jobs, including the building of the Minot Air Force Base and area missile sites. Following his retirement, he continued to work part-time in food service at Minot AFB and with the Green Thumb Organization. His wife Alice died on Aug 7, 1991. Lawrence was a lifelong member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Glenburn, where he served as a trustee and Eucharistic minister for many years. He served as treasurer for Elm Township for Bottineau County, and was past president and member of the Glenburn and Lansford Senior Citizens. He served as a representative on the Renville County Community Action and Commission on Aging Committee, was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, ND Seniors United, and past commander and member of the Glenburn American Legion for 57 years. While residing at ManorCare Health, Lawrence was very active, be it serving on the resident council, distributing communion, watering the many plants and flowers, or calling bingo. He thoroughly enjoyed the residents and staff during his stay. Survivors: three daughters, Mary (Peter) Fjeldahl, Berthold, ND, Margaret (Billy) Demaree, Bismarck, ND, and Barbara (Zeke) Sichmiller, Clayton, ID; ten grandchildren, Todd (Marlene) Fjeldahl, Lori Fjeldahl, Cindy Fjeldahl and fiancé Mike Wilde, Kim Fjeldahl and fiancé Scott Lentz, Jamie Demaree, Lisa (Brad) Brittingham, Rebecca Demaree, Jay Demaree, Lawrence Courter and Riley Courter; Five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Delaney, Ruth and Rex Brittingham and Morgan Demaree; one brother, Leonard Malone, Maryville, MO; one sister, Julia Reidlinger, Darlington, MO; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. His wife, parents, brothers, John and Robert Malone, and sisters, Catherine Kelly, Rita Elm, Dorothy Scheiber, and Mildred Peterson preceded him in death. Funeral Mass: Friday, September 12, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Glenburn, ND. Rosary recitation: Thursday, September 11, 2003, 5:30 p.m. at Thompson Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot. Visitation: Wednesday, September 10, 2003, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: St. Philomena Catholic Cemetery, Glenburn.
