Ameralys Mahlum • 1928 - 2011 Ameralys Brown was born December 17, 1928 on the family farm, near Norma, ND to Albert and Lucy (Waldron) Brown. She graduated from Kenmare High School in 1946 and then attended Minot Teacher’s College, where she earned her Standard Teaching Certificate. She taught school in a country school near Norma. On March 25, 1948, Ameralys married Selmer “Sam” Mahlum in Minot. They made their home on a farm north of Norma, ND, where they lived and raised their family. She was a farm wife in every sense of the word, and was involved in all aspects of farming and trucking. She enjoyed trips to the casinos with Sam and her friends, and loved gardening and canning. Her husband Sam passed away on August 26, 1999. In August of 2010 she moved to Brentmoor Assisted Living in Minot, where she resided with her best friend, her dog, Buddy. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Norma. Those who shared in her life, children, Marvin (Dani) Mahlum, Oak Harbor, WA, and Robert (Angie) Mahlum, Kenmare, ND; Sally (Eugene) Kerfeld, Willmar, MN; seven grandchildren, Mike, Shelley, Kyle, Shane, Megan, Bart and Sam; six great-grandchildren, Kia, Samantha, Daniel, Lexus, Adelyn and Kynslee; brother, Albert (Millie) Brown, Surrey, ND; numerous nieces and nephews. Ameralys was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; one infant son and by her parents. Funeral: Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND. Visitation and prayer service: Visitation will be Friday, January 13, 2012, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND. Burial: A private burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Norma, ND. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Norma, ND, or to an organization of the donor’s choice.

Ameralys Mahlum, 83, Minot, formerly of Norma, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in a Minot hospital, following a stroke she had on January 6, 2012.
