Roland Magandy 1925 - 2011
Roland Magandy, 85, rural Minot, ND, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 in a Minot hospital.
Roland Norman Magandy was born October 8, 1925 to Rufus and Anna (Lenaberg) Magandy. He was raised on the family farm near Ryder, ND and received his education in Ryder.
Roland served his country while in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed being on the boxing team while in the Navy.
On May 26, 1956 he married Mona Zethren, and they made their home in Torning Township, Ward County, North Dakota where they farmed and ranched. This was the home on which Roland would remain until his death.
Roland loved farming and ranching. He liked riding horse and helped his children get 4-H steers ready to show. He helped his children with other 4-H projects as well. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, dancing and ice skating with family and friends. He also played board games, cards, chess and would sometimes play his harmonica.
Grandkids were special to Roland and he would play with them and especially liked when they made milkshakes.
Roland was active in the Farm Bureau and the Moose Lodge.
Roland is survived by his wife, Mona, rural Minot; sons, Russell (Kim) Magandy, Minot and Robert (Stacey) Magandy, Minot; daughters, JoAnn (Fred) Schapp, Granville, ND and Ronda (Jesse) Pedersen, Dickinson, ND; grandchildren, Rees and Reeann Magandy, Wyatt, Tanner and Ryan Schapp, Ryder and Rayna Magandy and Summer and Stetson Pedersen; sisters, Irene Travis, Mississippi, Fern MaGandy, Mississippi, Eunice Volk, California, and Grace Jones, Minnesota; sister in law, Grace Magandy, Ryder, ND; sister in law and brother in law Wanda and Lou Carpenter, Montana; and brother in law David Zethren, Minot. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ricky; in laws, Clifford and Josephine Zethren; siblings and their spouses, Ethel (Ed) Schilling, Elmer (Lucille) Magandy, Ruth (Fran) Becker, Walter Magandy and Donald Magandy; brothers in law, Vince Volk and Oscar Travis, Wally Jones and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral: Monday, February 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday, February 27, 2011 from noon until 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
