Lloyd Orville Kenneth Lyson
1913 - 2004 Lloyd Orville Kenneth Lyson, 90, 120 18th St NW, Minot, ND, died Monday, August 16, 2004, in a Minot nursing home. He was born on December 1, 1913, in Palermo, ND, the son of Olaf and Louisa (Kiland) Lyson. He lived with his parents and brothers in Palermo, Stanley, Parshall, and Minot, ND and Benson and Montevideo, MN. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 30's. He entered the United States Army on October 28, 1942, and served during World War II. He was stationed in France and Germany and was later honorably discharged on November 7, 1945. In 1946, he went to work at the United States Post Office in Minot and retired in 1972. He married Anna B. Hylland on August 20, 1947, in Minot where they made their home. The couple had one daughter, Cherie. Anna passed away on September 21, 1983. On January 29, 1986, Lloyd married Myrtle Knapp in Minot. Lloyd entered Trinity Homes on March 19, 2004. He was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Employees and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge #822 both of Minot. Lloyd will be remembered for his 50 years of hand made exterior Christmas Decoration on 18th St. in Minot. He also loved growing flowers especially roses, and woodworking. Over the years he won numerous awards for both. Lloyd was an accomplished self-taught musician and enjoyed playing the piano, violin and accordion. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle, Minot; daughter, Cherie Mergel and her husband Lloyd, Minot; five step grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Pierson, Austin, TX, and Stanley Pierson and his wife Sandy, Minot; sisters-in-law, Frances Kaeding, Minot, Hazel Lyson, Ballard, WA, Lillian Hylland, Scobey, MT, and Nadine Pierson, Minot, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Anna, his parents, brothers, Arnold, Emmett and Albin Lyson and several infant brothers and sisters.
