Mary Lou Lyght, 76, 1315 5th St. SW, Minot, ND, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009, at Trinity Homes in Minot.

Mary Lou Wherley was born February 24, 1933, a daughter of Royal and Lila (Nelson) Wherley, on a farm in Renville County, six miles SW of Mohall, ND. Her mother, Lila, passed away when Mary Lou was two years old. She was raised and educated in Minot, ND.

Mary Lou married Henry "Hank" Lyght December 21, 1950, in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where she worked as a cook for various restaurants. She retired in 1993. Hank passed away February 23, 2005.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, and the VFW Auxiliary.

Family was her main priority as she was the caretaker. She loved to vacation with her children every year, enjoyed taking day trips to various places throughout North Dakota, and an occasional trip to the casino. She also enjoyed puzzles.

Her loving family includes: daughter, Debbie Lyght and her fiancé, Roger Guttormson, Minot;
sisters, Shirley Mae Hoelscher and her husband, Ernie, Berthold, ND; and Darlene Davis and her husband, Greg, Coupeville, WA; several nieces, and nephews; very best friend, Irene Brockey, Grand Forks, ND; and her "grandchildren", Jimmy Strobel, Josh Strobel and Nichole Romero, and her children Dee Dee, Erica, and Alyssa.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hank; son, Kevin; brothers, Wallace and Ronnie; and her step mother, Ann Wherley.

Funeral: Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Private Family Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Friday from Noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the donor's choice.
