Henry "Hank"
Lyght • 1923 - 2005 Henry "Hank" Lyght 81, 1315 5th St. SW, Minot, ND, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at a Minot nursing home. Henry Lyght was born on December 19, 1923, the son of Henry and Dollie (Bean) Lyght in Logan, ND. He was raised and educated in the Sawyer area. He enlisted in the US Navy on June 20, 1944. He proudly served his country during WWII, where he was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 16, 1946, as a Seaman First Class. Hank married Mary Lou Wherley on December 21, 1950, in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot, where he was employed by the ND Department of Transportation. He retired as a Leadman in 1992 after 42 years. Hank was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, and of the VFW Post #753. Hank loved to travel with his children and take day trips around North Dakota. His family and friends were very important to him. He also enjoyed trips to the casino to see if he was lucky. Surviving family includes: wife of 54 years: Mary Lou of Minot;daughters: Debbie Lyght and her fiancé, Roger Guttormson, both of Minot; and a special niece they helped raise, Kelley (Rodney) Gilroy of Ennis, TX;brother: Clifford (Claire) Lyght of Minot; several nieces and nephews. Hank was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Lyght; brothers, Milton, Gerald, Howard, and Claud Lyght; sister, Mary Jane Preston; and very best friend, Frank Brockey. Funeral: Saturday, February 26, 2005, at 11:00 a.m.
