Frances Lawayne Wagar Long 1916 - 2004

Frances Lawayne Wagar Long, 88, Minot, formerly of Towner, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, in a Minot medical center.

Frances was born September 12, 1916, in Wagar Township, McHenry County, ND, the daughter of Mitchell and Margaret (Cary) Wagar. She graduated from Bantry High School in 1935. Frances attended the Christie Beauty School in Bismarck. She received her operator's license in October of 1937, and was employed at a Bismarck beauty shop.

On March 21, 1938, she was united in marriage to Bill Long, in Towner, ND. They lived most of their life in the Bantry, Upham area, on a farm, where they raised livestock and turkeys. They spent their winters in Florida when the children were young. Frances was baptized in the Community Church in Marathon, Florida in 1950. In 1974, she was confirmed in the Melankton Lutheran Church in Upham.

After her retirement, they spent some winters in Nevada. In 1992, Frances and Bill moved to Minot. Bill passed away in September of 1993. Frances lived at Edgewood Vista, until 2 weeks ago, when she entered Trinity Homes.

Frances was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, and the Good Will Circle, both of Upham. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, playing bingo, going to the casino, fishing, music and traveling. Frances will always be remembered for her bright charismatic smile.

Survivors: children, Judy Johnson, Minot, Bill (Janey) Long, Missoula, MT, Max (Joyce) Long, Dickinson, ND, and Mary Sather, Minot; grandchildren, Wayne (DeAnna) Johnson, Dean (Jean) Johnson, Julie Long, Becky Wiedrich, David Long, Amy Long, Markaye Hanson, Marisa (Eric) Folstad; sisters, Lois (Joe) Kurutz, Beaverton, OR, Reta Drewniak, Meridian, ID; brother-in-law, Robert Long, Lancaster, CA; sisters-in-law, Olive Lawson, Marionette, WI and Leila Long, Minot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, parents, Mitchell and Margaret, brother, Gordon Wagar, sister, Leola Murray, grandson Matthew Brandt.

Funeral Service: Monday, November 29, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Visitation: Saturday, November 27, 2004, from Noon until 5 p.m. and Sunday, November 28, 2004, from Noon until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Prayer Service: Sunday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
