Roger Lock 1928- 2011

Roger Lock Military PhotoRoger Lock, 83, Minot, ND passed away peacefully Friday, May 27, 2011 at Trinity Homes with family at his side to make his journey to his Heavenly Home as comfortable as possible.

Roger Edward Lock was born April 1, 1928 at Forman, ND to Henry and Caroline (Bommersbach) Lock. He grew up on a farm in the Forman, Rutland area in Sargent County. He attended rural schools and worked for various farmers in the area. He enlisted in the Army and served in World War II and was stationed in Hawaii and Korea and was then honorably discharged in 1947.

In 1948 He married the love of his life Lorraine Pieterick at Cayuga, ND. and with this uniting had eight wonderful children.

They then moved to Lidgerwood, ND where Roger worked for Duerr Electric and then later moved to the Rutland, Forman, ND area where he farmed for a few years and worked for McLean Implement International Harvester, then worked construction. Roger Lock newer photo

In 1960 He moved to Minot and worked for various Contractors on Missile Sites, Power Plants, Antelope Valley, Coal Creek at Stanton, Great Plains Coal Gasification Plant near Beulah, ND as a Heavy Equipment Operator with being a Crane Operator up until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers - Local 49, VFW Post 753, American Legion Post 0026 and St. Leo's Catholic Church.

In his younger years Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, to which he grew some prize winning melons and most recently enjoyed playing bingo, watching TV and listening to KCJB.

Roger fought a good long fight with his illnesses until he could fight no more. He had a strong personalilty that was matter of fact and say it like it is, but most of all He loved his family very much!

Preceded him in death was his Parents; Brothers; Harvey and Donald, Sisters; Geraldine Murray and Marian Kulzer, Son-In-law David Ballantyne.

Survivors: Wife of 62 years, Lorraine, Minot - Sons; Thomas (Laura) Lock, Robert (Gina) Lock, Paul (Melanie Bakke) Lock all Minot, Daughters; Judith (Leslie) Brandt, Fargo, ND, Diane (Mark) Ballew, Sioux Falls, SD, Mary Ballantyne, Billings, MT, Donna (Wade) Grosz, Minot, Lori (Mike Hackett) Lock, Savage MN. 14 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral:  Roger's Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, June 1,  2:00 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday, May 31, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Thompson Larson Funeral Home. A private family Rosary/Prayer Service will be held from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. prior to the visitation.

Following the graveside service, everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall of the church, located in the lower level.

Roger’s family would like thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. A “special” thank you to the Trinity Dialysis Team, Trinity Homes Staff and Hospice for all of the support, caring and helping hands. Your thoughts and prayers will never be forgotten.  May God bless the memory of Roger!
