Shirley Light 1947- 2011

Shirley Light PhotoShirley Mae Light, 63, Garrison, ND, died Monday, February 14, 2011 in her winter home in Yuma, AZ.

Shirley Mae Golly was born on October 9, 1947, a daughter of Lyle R. and Marion (Gehring) Golly in Minot, ND. She was raised and educated in Minot.

Shirley had a lifelong career in the bar business. She started assisting her grandfather in the operations of the Blue Moon. Her father, Lyle “Slim” Golly then owned and operated, with Shirley’s assistance, the Stockmen’s Lounge until the time of his death, when Shirley took over the operations, later renaming the bar The Yellow Rose. She was owner /operator until her retirement.

Shirley enjoyed fishing, spending time with her horses and animals, especially her dog Tika.
She especially enjoyed gambling, playing Bingo, and slot machines. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all that knew her.  

Surviving relatives:
Daughter Julie Ann Yeakel , Nashville, TN; mother: Marion Golley, Minot;  grandchildren: Alexis Rau and her son Kaden Rau, Alisha (Frank) Hopkins, Melissa Ann Carreira and Michael Davy;  extended family: Nathan Joern,  Denielle Joern and her two children Jodeci Joern and Damia Valdez.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father Lyle “Slim” Golly, daughter Lori Ann Davy Carreira, and her companion of 15 years Alan “Charlie” Schriock, who died February 21, 2011 on his way back to ND from Yuma, AZ.

Visitation:  Friday, February 25, 2011 from 2-6 at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot  

Funeral Service: Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10:30 am at Thompson Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Burial:  will take place at a later date in the spring of 2011 at the Velva Community Cemetery, Velva.

Following the funeral service, everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship at the VFW Club Post 753, located at 1100 31st St SE.

Shirley’s family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Shirley.
