Leslie Allen Leier • 1953 - 2006

Leslie Allen Leier, 53, Velva, ND died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in his home.

Leslie was born October 1, 1953 in Minot, ND, the son of William J. and Marie
(Duchsherer) Leier. He was raised on the farm, and graduated from Velva High School in 1972. He started his working career as a waiter at the local coffee shop in Velva, and moved on to Bee Line in Minot, ND. Later he worked for the Burlington Northern railroad as a Car Man, while working full time for Bob Knorr. He spent many years driving semi-truck hauling grain, and then finally settled down to full time farming and raising Quarter Horses.

In 1973, he was united in marriage to Joan Petersen. To this union was born three sons, Chad, Dustin and Nathan. In October of 1995, he married Lynette Thorp, they made their home on the farm near Velva, ND.

Les was a former member of the AQHA, Velva Saddle Club, and the Minot Trail Riders. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, especially working on his 1956 Ford car. He loved trail riding in the Badlands with his wife and going hunting with his sons and friends. He loved the thrill of boon docking with his sons on a snowmobile, always looking for someone to catch him at the top. At one time he raced snowmobiles on the snowmobile circuit. He loved the outdoors, taking his family camping at Fort Stevenson Park and always admired the beauty of things, taking pictures of flowers, deer, and the badlands. He could fix anything that needed fixing, and was a master of leverage.

Leslie is survived by: Wife, Lynette Leier, Velva, ND; sons: Chad (Melissa) Leier, Dustin (Alysa Anderson) Leier, Nathan (Jen Reichenberger) Leier, all of Minot, ND, James (Jennifer) Bilby Jr, Puyallup, WA, daughters, Justina Bilby, Velva, ND, Lyrissa Bilby, Tacoma, WA, two grandchildren, Brandon and Nicholas Leier, both of Minot; mother, Marie Leier, Minot; brothers, William J. "Billy" Leier, Minot, Bruce (Sherrie) Leier, Velva, ND; sister, Carleen (Dan Lawrence) Leier, Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law, Andrew (Stephanie) Thorp, Moffit, ND; father-in-law, Arthur Thorp, Velva, ND Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Last but not least, a man's best friend, Taz.

Les was preceded in death by his father, William J. Leier and mother-in-law, Irene Thorp as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation: Sunday, November 26, 2006 from noon until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service: Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, November 27, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
