John M. Leibhan • 1929 - 2010 John M. Leibhan was born April 11, 1929, a son of Alex and Lucy (Kossan) Leibhan, in Esmond, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Esmond, graduating in 1948. He then attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He entered the US Army in June of 1951, serving his country during the Korean War. He received several medals, including the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in March of 1953. After his return home he settled in Minot where he was employed at Ace Hardware until 1968, when he became employed by the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1992. John was united in marriage to Eileen Zainhofsky, the love of his life, on August 7, 1956 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. They made their home of 54 years in Minot. John was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a former member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus#1150, the American Legion Post #26 and the Eagles Aerie #2376, all in Minot. John enjoyed sports, especially football, baseball and bowling. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and reading. He also enjoyed bingo and an occasional trip to a casino. John was a kind, gentle man who loved time spent with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who shared in his life, leaving many happy memories. Surviving family includes: loving wife of 54 years, Eileen, Minot; sisters, Clara (Ray) Volkers of St. Paul, MN and Laura (Mike) Aebly of St. Paul, MN; brothers, James (Milly) Leibhan of Helena, MT, Robert (Carol) Leibhan of Fargo, ND and Richard (Rose) Leibhan of Rapid City, SD; sister in law, Bernice Leibhan of Esmond, ND and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Gary; and infant daughter, Mary Anne; brothers, Ray, Mike and Joseph Leibhan; sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Paul Neubauer; and sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Pius Richter. Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.
