Lucille Lee 1916- 2009

Lucille Schmidt was born on April 3, 1916, a daughter of Joseph and Clara (Miller) Schmidt on a farm south of Palermo. She attended country school through the eighth grade, and graduated from Tagus High School in 1932, where she lived with her sister Evelyn.  Following graduation, she worked in a restaurant in Palermo, before moving to St. Paul, MN, where she lived with her brother Miron. In 1936, she returned to ND and attended Steinmetz’s Business College in Minot. Lucille worked as a bookkeeper at Goldberg Furniture, then Stevenson’s Ladies Ready to wear as a bookkeeper and office manager.

On July 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Iver Lee. They made their home in Minot, where Lucille continued to work for Stevenson’s, and later for Magic City Beverage. In 1942, they moved to Seattle, WA, where she was a bookkeeper for White Center housing until 1944, when she moved to Sanish, ND, when Iver went into the service. In February 1944, daughter Lana was born. That fall she went to work as a bookkeeper and office manager for W.R.Olson, who owned and operated a garage in Sanish. In 1946, following Iver’s discharge, they returned to Minot, where Lucille was a daycare provider. In 1960, she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager at the Trinity Nursing Home, retiring in 1979. In 1998, she moved from her home in with her daughter Lana. Lana passed away in 2007. Following her death, Lucille entered Edgewood Vista, and in 2009, Trinity Homes.

Lucille was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, where she served as treasurer of Ladies Aid and circle, active in mother’s club, taught Sunday School and served on the church council. She was also active in the Girl Scouts Brownie organization.

Lucille will most of all be remembered as Grandma Lee. She was the kind of grandma that everyone wishes they had, she had five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Each and everyone of us knew we had a special place in her heart and she in ours. if more people in the world were like her, it would be a better place. She will be missed dearly and we will always lover her “bushels and bushels.”

Those who shared in her life:  Five grandchildren: Lee (Valerie) Nordin, Kelly (Ron Bendickson) Nordin, Terri (Bryce) Beck, Jessi (John) Theobald, Paula (Tim Johnson) Christensen; nine great-grandchildren: Randi and Ben Nordin, Sydney, Skylar and Skotti Beck, Alyx, Talli and Jack Theobald and Iver Christensen; sister-in-law: Marie Johannson; brother-in-law: Art (Beverly) Lee; and a number of nephews and nieces also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lana Nordin; brothers and sisters-in-law Paul (Grace) Schmidt, Miron (Sally) Schmidt, Jack (Agnes) Schmidt; sisters and brothers-in-law Marjorie (Dale) Whitmore and Evelyn (Andy) Halverson.

Visitation: Sunday, October 11, 2009 from noon until 5 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Monday, October 12, 2009 at 1 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
