Ann L. Lauer 1925 - 2007 Ann Laverne Bierman was born February 6, 1925, in Aberdeen, SD, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Holscher) Bierman. Her mother, Anna, died during childbirth. She was raised by her relatives, Herman and Amanda Holscher. Ann attended college after high school and for a short time taught school in the proverbial "One-room schoolhouse," where she enjoyed working with the students. She was married to Arthur L. Lauer February 9, 1952, in Ellendale, ND. Art's brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clarence and Marie Lauer, were witnesses to the event and signed the marriage certificate. They spent most of their married life in Minnesota and North Dakota. After trying for years to have a child of their own, they adopted a daughter, Christine Ann, in 1966, and shortly thereafter moved to Minot, ND, where Art was transferred with Burlington Northern Railroad. Ann was a housewife and mother for a majority of her life focusing all her attention and care on home, family and church. They attended St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot for many years. Art passed away June 4, 1981. In time her daughter, Christy married Dean Caranicas and they had three children, Stefan, Alexander and Whitney. In 1997, Christy and Dean moved to Mishawaka, IN, and after a couple of years of not being able to see her family every day she decided to give in to their urging to move out there to join them. She lived in a mother-in-law suite in their home. Her grandson, Stefan married Natalie Brown and they are expecting their first child in December of this year. Her other grandson, Alexander married Trista Hagberg and had a baby girl, Makaylee Marie in July of 2007. Ann was able to enjoy three months of cuddling and holding her. Currently Whitney is a freshman in high school in Eagan, MN. If I could say something about my mom it would have to be the fact that she always put others ahead of herself. She was loved by everyone that came in contact with her and made a memorable impression on everyone. The staff and residents at the assisted living home, Carefree Living, where she spent the last five years were filled with devastation when they were told of her passing. They all commented on how she was one of the nicest, most compassionate people they had ever met. She lived for family and was most happy when she was with us holding us and laughing. I was truly blessed that she picked me as her daughter. Surviving family includes: daughter and son-in-law, Christine Ann and Dean Caranicas, Eagan, MN; grandsons, Stefan and Alex Caranicas; granddaughter, and Whitney Caranicas; great-granddaughter, Makaylee Marie Caranicas; and other family members, Karen Matieson, Laura Holscher, Gwen Braddock, Lyla Niederbaumer and Jackie Landis. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; sister, Freda Peterson; and brothers, Victor Holscher. Funeral: Friday, November 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at
