Madeline B. Larson 1925 - 2011

Madeline Bernice Larson was born on August 7, 1925, a daughter of Harry J. and Mable (Lee) Amsbaugh in the Turtle Mountains, near Bottineau, ND. She was educated in a country school through the eighth grade, then she moved to Bottineau to attend high school. In 1944, Madeline graduated with honors from Bottineau High School. She worked at various grocery stores, the Gamble Store and Williams Drug Store after graduation.

On August 30, 1945, Madeline was united in marriage to LaVern Larson in Bottineau. They moved to Fargo, where LaVern received his mechanic’s certificate. In 1946, they returned to Bottineau, where children Lona, Loy and Lynae  were born.

In 1955, Madeline and LaVern purchased a combination gas/service/grocery store six miles south of Westhope, ND. Two more children Landis and Lydell were born.

In 1961, the family built a home in Foxholm, ND and LaVern began working at Minot Air Force Base, and Madeline was a homemaker. She was a fabulous cook, always having a hot meal on the table at 5:00 pm sharp.  Madeline was also a phenomenal seamstress, sewing her children’s school clothing. In 1986, Madeline and LaVern moved to Minot and in 2011, moved to Sioux Falls, SD.

Madeline was a member of Minot Senior Citizens, Eagles Club, Moose Lodge and Hearth and Home Homemakers Club. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all the lives she touched.

Madeline is survived by:  Husband of 66 years, LaVern, Sioux Falls, SD; sons: Loy (Kathy) Larson, Portland, OR, Landis (Robin) Larson, West Fargo, ND, Lydell (Tammy) Larson, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters: Lona  (Ken A.) Anderson, Minot, Lynae  Larson, St. Paul, MN; eight grandchildren and six  great-grandchildren:

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers.

Visitation:  Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 2-7 at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot with a prayer service at 7 pm in the chapel.

Funeral Service:  Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 10 am at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot

Burial:  Thursday, December 29 at 3pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND
