Edward T. Larson 1913 - 2005

Edward T. Larson, 92, Minot, formerly of the Makoti and Roseglen areas and longtime owner and operator of Larson Implement in Makoti and later Magic City Implement in Minot, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, in a Minot hospital.

Edward was born on March 19, 1913, on the family homestead near Douglas, ND, the son of Theodore and Elsie (Hansen) Larson. His family purchased a homestead near Makoti, ND, in 1916. He attended school in Makoti and worked on the family farm. Ed and his father started as J.I. Case dealers in 1933 on the family farm, doing business as Larson Implement Company. In 1939, Ed purchased the business from his father and moved the business into a facility in Makoti. The business prospered, and a new building was built in 1948. Later expansion came in 1959 when Ed acquired the J.I. Case sub-branch in Minot, converting it into a dealership which he named Magic City Implement. He was honored as the top dealer for many years by the J.I. Case Company. He continued this operation until his retirement in 1983. He was recognized at that time for achieving 50 years of service as a J.I. Case Implement dealer.

Edward was once married to May Trihub. They were married in 1936, and together they raised three children, Audrey, Sharon and E. Neil. On June 5, 1960, Edward married Leona B. Snippen at Roseglen, ND. The couple moved to Minot in 1960 and Ed continued to be active in the farming operations near Makoti and Roseglen until 1998.

Edward was a life-time member of Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti, and the Makoti Threshers Association. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway, the Elks and Moose Lodges and the Eagles Aerie, all in Minot. He and Leona were active in the development of the Scandinavian Heritage Center in Minot, and they were honorary members of the Scandinavian Heritage Association.

Survivors: Children, Audrey Petz, Ojai, CA, Sharon (Ralph) Shumaker, Greenville, N.C, and E. Neil (Dee) Larson, Makoti; seven grandchildren, Nathan (Carrie) Petz, Jason Petz, Heather Petz (Martin) Chapman, Cindy Larson (Marty) Damico, Suzanne Larson (Kennedy) Thompson, Sarah Larson, and Erin Shumaker; 12 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Desiree, Joel and Kyle Petz, Luke Chapman, Candice Root, Sonny Anderson, Mandy Damico, Dylan and Paige Larson, Shelby and Colby Thompson, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews also survive.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Leona B. Larson; grandson, Michael Larson; his parents, Theodore and Elsie Larson; sisters, Maggie Anderson and Mabel Larson; brothers, John and Gilbert Larson.

Funeral: Friday, April 15, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti, ND.

Visitation: Thursday, April 14, 2005, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND, and Friday, from noon to service time at Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti. At any other time the Larson family can be contacted at Edward's home, located at 905 33rd Ave. SW B, Minot, ND.

Burial: Roseglen Lutheran Cemetery, Roseglen, ND.
