Agnes Larsen 1922 - 2010 Agnes Loraine “Peg” Swensrud was born August 22, 1922, a daughter of Iver and Lena (Nordine) Swensrud, on a farm south of Verendrye, ND. She grew to young womanhood there, was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran church in Verendrye. She attended 10 years of school, and graduated from Granville High School in 1939. During her last year of school and a year following, she was employed by Helen Foyen at the White Dot Coffee in Granville. On September 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Alf Larsen at the Lutheran Parsonage in Velva, ND. They lived for two years on a farm east of Karlsruhe, ND. They purchased the Lena Stalheim farm north of Verendrye and later the Sam Cato farm on the Mouse River. Agnes helped with farming and cattle raising until 1964, when they moved to Granville, ND. From 1964-1984, Agnes worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a nurses assistant. Following her retirement from St. Joseph’s Hospital, she worked several years for Lowe’s Floral and Garden Center. In 1990, she joined the Farmers Market in Minot, where she was affectionately known as the “Doughnut lady.” Alf passed away December 16, 2008. In her spare time, Agnes liked to bake, read, watch ball games, play cards and especially liked to travel. She and Alf visited Norway, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, California, Florida, Utah and Louisiana. Agnes was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Granville, the Lutheran Women’s Group, was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she held various offices, and the Granville Senior Citizens where she held several offices. When her children were young, she also worked with the local 4-H clubs. Those who shared in her life and mourn her death; Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alf, granddaughter, Lisa Larsen, great- grandson, Colin Myers; brothers, Selmerand Oliver Swensrud; sister, Anna Zaback. Agnes wanted to send out a special thank you to Dr. Farah and Dr. Turk for “keeping me going”. The graveside service will take place in the Spring. Our family would like to thank all of you for your many acts of kindness.
