Jennie E. Lang 1910 - 2002

Jennie E. Lang, 91, 3700 County Road 19 South, Minot, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, in a Minot nursing home.

Jennie was born July 9, 1910, 4 ½ miles northeast of Kenmare, ND, the daughter of Jorgen and Mabel (Harris) Boe. She attended first and second grades at Lincoln Elementary in Minot and then attended school in Kenmare where she graduated in 1929.

In 1930, Jennie moved to Minot where she began employment at Trinity Hospital and worked there until 1932. She was once married to Earl Benton. They lived in Minot where she raised her seven children. On July 17, 1959 she married John Lang in Minot. She worked as a cook at Minot Campus School from 1962 to 1968. John died November 18, 1990.

While in Kenmare Jennie was a member of the Church of the Brethren. In 1930 when she moved to Minot she joined the Minot Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school, served as adult supervisor of the youth, was chorister of music and assistant treasurer of the church. She served as president, vice president and secretary of the Women's Fellowship. The Minot Church of the Brethren later closed and she became a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, which merged with the United Methodist Church. In the newly formed church she was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving two years as vice president and four years as chairperson of Supportive Community and was also active in the church group for global concerns. She was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church, Minot, and a lifetime member of the North Dakota Congress of Parents and Teachers. She held a lifetime faculty membership in the Minot Model Alumni Association. She also served as a Cub Scout Leader for numerous years. In her spare time, she made many quilts and did sewing work for her family and friends.

Survivors: Daughters, Eline (Lannie) Kunkel, Minot, Vivian Bradwisch, Surrey, Lenore (Lester) Zietz, Underwood, and Iris (Jack) Galligan, Burtrum, MN; sons, Warren (Mary) Benton, Brooten, MN, and Perrie (Patricia) Benton, Minot; 32 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; brother, John Boe, Minot; sisters, Helen (Francis) Mary, Salem, OR, and Irene (Alvin) Burcham, Sterling, AK; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lang; son, Ronald Benton; son-in-law, Wayne Bradwisch; granddaughter, Susan Bradwisch; great-granddaughter, Jessica Zietz; sister, Rachel Cole, and one infant brother and one infant sister; sister-in-law, Alma Boe.

Funeral: Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
