Grace Lucille (Wickham) Lakoduk 1921 - 2005

Grace Lucille (Wickham) Lakoduk, 84, Minot, died Saturday, October 8, 2005, in a Minot hospital.

She was born on April 12, 1921, in Ruso, ND, the daughter of Bert and Julia (Frick) Wickham. In 1930, the family moved to Butte, ND, where Grace attended school and graduated from Butte High School in 1939. After graduation she worked in San Haven for two years. She then returned to Butte and went to work for Mrs. Kasper at the Outlaw Trading Post. In June of 1946, she began working for Pete Lakoduk at Pete's Place in Butte.

She married Peter Lakoduk on April 13, 1966, at Rugby, ND. The couple lived on the farm near Butte where they raised Canadian Geese, ducks, swans, peacocks, wild turkeys and many other waterfowl birds. Each year they had a large garden that produced many varieties of fruit and vegetables. In January of 1994, after Pete's death she moved to Minot. She loved to travel and fulfilled her dream to see the Holy Land in 1997.

Grace enjoyed playing cards, especially double deck pinochle. She really enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting with her many friends. She battled many health conditions without ever complaining. Over the past several years she was able to stay in her home with the services of Prairie Rose Home Services. At the time of her death she was living at Milton Young Towers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Grace was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the XYZ Club and the Tenants Association of Milton Young Towers.

Survivors: stepsons; Norman (Priscilla) Lakoduk, Nulato, AK, Calvin Lakoduk, AZ, Cliff (Judy) Lakoduk, Bismarck, ND, stepson-in-law, Delmar Smedshammer, Litchville, ND; stepdaughters, Betty (Duane) Kaplor, Juneau, AK, Joann (Jim) Hanson, Juneau, AK, stepdaughter-in-law, Audrey Lakoduk, Minot; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete who died on January 2, 1994, her parents, two sisters, Ruth Lakoduk and Phoebe Feickert, stepson, Moses Lakoduk, stepdaughter, Margaret Smedshammer, step granddaughter, Darcy Smedshammer and her nephew, Arnold Feickert.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.

Visitation: Today, Monday, October 10, 2005, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson
Funeral Home, Minot, one hour prior to the service at the church and a few minutes prior to the graveside service in Butte.

Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Butte Community Cemetery, Butte, ND.
