Dyarl Eugene Lackey 1934 - 2003 Dyarl Eugene Lackey, 68, Minot, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, in a Minot nursing home. He was born November 30, 1934, in Webber Falls, OK, to Homer and Thelma (Morrison) Lackey. He was raised and educated in Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Spiro, OK. He entered the United States Navy in 1952 and later transferred to the Air Force, making this his life career. In April of 1970, he moved to Minot and was stationed at the Air Force Base. On June 27, 1972, he married Margaret Rose Long in Okmulgee, OK. They made their home in Minot and Dyarl retired on September 1, 1974. At the time of his retirement he was N.C.O.I.C. of the Dental clinic. He received a business degree from Minot State University and held several management positions throughout the years, including at the American Legion, Elks and at the Minot Air Force Base. He was a member of the American Legion, the Hooterville Lions, D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans), T.R.E.A. (The Retired Enlisted Association) and the A.A.R.P. (American Association of Retired Persons). He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash music and was given the nickname of Johnny Cash by many friends. Dyarl loved his family and considered his wife, Margaret the "wind beneath his wings". He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. His favorite time of day was at sunset and he would often be found in the back yard at this time, sharing private time to talk with God and visit with his father. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. Rest now our Miracle Man! Survivors: wife, Margaret, Minot; children, Darren Lackey, Fort Worth, TX, Christopher (Deborah) Long, Minot, Paul Lackey, Midwest City, OK, Margaret Anne (William) Peckham, Weirton, WV, Steven Long, Richmond, VA, Anthony (Jacque) Long, Cheyenne, WY and Shannon Lackey, Minot; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; step-mother, Mattie Lackey, Arkoma, OK; brother, Glen (Joyce) Lackey, Fort Smith, OK and step sister, Kay (Bill) Rogers, Van Buren, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerald. Funeral: Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. Visitation: Tuesday from noon until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot on Wednesday
