Helen D. (Tomko) Kyle 1912- 2011 Helen D. Tomko was born December 21, 1912, in Chicago, Illinois, to Stephen and Mary (Ferenc) Tomko. Her father passed away in a coal mining accident in Virginia, shortly before she was born. Her mother then moved the family to a farmstead in the Parshall, ND, area. Helen was raised in the Parshall area and educated at a country school there. Helen left Parshall in 1935 and moved to Minot, ND, at which time she met her future husband, Herman. They were married May 28, 1938. Helen worked various jobs while Herman was deployed from 1942 to 1945 during WWII. She sang for the K.I.P.M. Radio Station, worked at Saunders Drug, American Café, Alma’s Dairy, and the Elks Club. Herman and Helen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988. Herman passed away that same year. Following her husband’s death, Helen continued to reside in Minot until 2008, when she moved into the Bottineau Good Samaritan Society. Helen was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot. Surviving family includes: four grandchildren, Anna-Marie Ganje (Keith Jones) Minneapolis, MN, Daniel (Shelly) Ganje, Marysville, WA, Susan (Scott) Indvik, Souris, ND, and Patrick (Teresa) Ganje, Edwards, CO; six great-grandchildren, Ashley (Robert) Pedie, Bottineau, Miranda (Tyson) Brandt, Bottineau, Levi Indvik, Souris, Tanner Ganje, Marysville, WA, and Atlyn and McKayla Ganje, Edwards, CO; two great great-grandchildren, Taylar Romans and Cooper Pedie; son-in-law, Daniel R. Ganje; and many numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church or the Bottineau Good Samaritan. |
