Ernest A. Kunnanz 1932 - 2010

Ernie Kunnanz newerErnest A. Kunnanz, 77, Minot, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 in his home.

Ernest Albert Kunnanz was born June 12, 1932 in Selz, ND, to Frank and Frances (Thomas) Kunnanz.  He attended school in Selz through the 10th grade, and then attended Harvey High School, where he graduated in 1950.

While in his senior year in high school he entered the United States Army in December of 1950.  He served with the 164th Tank Company.  He was honorably discharged in 1951 and returned to North Dakota.  He attended the North Dakota State School of Science at Wahpeton and graduated in 1952.  He worked on the railroad in North Dakota for a short time and then he worked on the west coast for Delmo-Victor, working with electronics.  He moved back to Minot and worked for a time at Esterby T.V., where he was a partner with Ed Violet.

On August 28, 1961, Ernie married Alouise Richter at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe.  Following their marriage they made their home in Minot.  Ernie began employment at Firestone in 1964, and later became co-owner and operator of that business until retiring in 1994.Ernie Kunnanz in the military

Ernie was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, the Moose and Elks Lodges, the American Legion and was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Member, all in Minot.  Ernie and Alouise enjoyed traveling in the R.V. and took many family trips to the Canadian Rockies.

Those who shared in Ernie’s life, Wife, Alouise, Minot; son, Tyrone (Char) Kunnanz, West Fargo, ND; daughter, Robin (Doug) Presley, Minot; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Tia, Bethany, Tara, Bailee, Tanner and Jessica; brothers, Herman Kunnanz, Yakima, WA, Hygenus Kunnanz, Seattle, WA, Arthur (Sharon) Kunnanz, Bismarck, Gary (Beverly) Kunnanz, Tucson, AZ; sister: Eleanor Howland, Redwood City, CA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph, Raymond, David and Emmanuel.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot

Visitation: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service:  Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
