Fred R. Kunkel 1920 - 2003 Fred R. Kunkel, 82, Granville, died Sunday, January 26, 2003 at the Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, SD. He was born August 15, 1920 in Eckman, ND to Fred and Amanda Kunkel. On September 28, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served on the Anti Tank Company in the 383rd Infantry 96th Division. He was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946, and returned to North Dakota. On September 22, 1942, he married Marie Miller in Towner.
They live and farmed northwest of Granville. From 1964 until
1984, Fred worked as a yard foreman and truck driver for Krebsbach
Inc. in Minot. His wife Marie died in 1985. Fred continued living
in Granville until November of 2002, when he moved to Watertown,
SD to live closer to his family. At the time of his death, he
was residing at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, SD. Survivors: children, Derwin (Marilyn) Kunkel, Watertown, SD, Darrell (Mona) Kunkel, Cheyenne, WY, Gale McGuire, Tucson, AZ, Dale (Gerry) Kunkel, Woodland Park, CO and Richard Kunkel, Watertown, SD; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Clark, Adeline Schmidt, Alma Frounfelter and Mabel Hills; brother, Alvin Kunkel and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers, Ed, Leonard, Delbert, LeRoy, Lester and Bobby Kunkel. Funeral: Saturday, February 1, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Granville, ND. Visitation: Friday, January 31, 2003, from noon until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Granville Cemetery, Granville, ND. Music: Processional "How Great Thou Art"
