Candace Marie Kowitz 1951 - 2003

Candace Marie Kowitz, 51, 2408 Brookside Drive, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2003, in Minot, surrounded by her family after a short and courageous battle with lung cancer.

She was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Minot on November 26, 1951, the daughter of Lyle "Bud" and Alice (Bourassa) Witteman. Candace was reared and educated in Mohall and graduated from Mohall High School in 1969. After graduation she attended Minot Business College. She was employed at The Minot Daily News. Candace was once married to Roger S. Clay. The couple had two daughters, Angela Dawn and Tara Marie Clay. In 1982, Candace and her two girls moved to Minot. From 1984 until 1988 she worked at Minot State University's print shop.

Candace met Waldemar Kowitz in the summer of 1987 and the couple married on March 31, 1988, in their home. Candace and Waldemar moved their family to Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA, and remained there until 1991, when Wally retired from the Air Force. The couple returned to Minot to be near family and friends.

Candace was employed at Olson, Burns and Lee as a legal secretary. She then opened and operated her own craft store, "Aunt Nellie's." She also worked at the Crafters Mall here in Minot.

In April of 1995, she started working for TCI cable in the Primestar office, Minot. She worked for TCI until May of 2000, when she returned to MSU to earn her certificate in medical transcription. After her certification she worked for Meritcare in Fargo until the time of her diagnosis.
Candace's pride and joy were her three grandbabies; their names were even on her license plates. She loved to sit with them and watch them play. Her greatest enjoyment was seeing them grow up. Candace collected mini tea sets, she loved flowers, gardening and being near her family and friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot, the Minot German Club where she served as secretary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the NPL Democratic Party. She was also a former member of St. Jerome's Catholic Church, Mohall.
