Rosemary Koster, 70, Flaxton, ND, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 in the Kenmare hospital following a lengthy illness.

Rosemary Cochrane was born December 3, 1938 in Williston, ND, a daughter of Harry and Mary (Reed) Cochrane. Her father died when she was very young and she was raised by four sets of loving foster parents. At the age of 11 she moved to Flaxton where she was raised and graduated from Flaxton High School.

On December 1, 1957, Rosemary married Marlowe Koster in Flaxton. They made their home in the Flaxton area and raised their two children, Joy and Stacey. Rosemary worked for a time at the Burke County Tribune in Bowbells and was also around to help her husband with farming chores.

Rosemary was a self-taught artist and became very active and involved in the art industry, holding art shows in various cities in the upper Midwest and Canada. Some of her artwork is held by major collectors and she sold her work as Originals by Rosemary.

She was a member of various art groups in the U.S. and Canada and taught one-day art sessions in the Minot elementary schools, College for Kids at Minot State University and other area schools. She was a member of the former United Lutheran Church, Flaxton, the Flaxton homemakers and in her younger days she taught Sunday school and sang for local funerals.

Those who shared in her life, Husband, Marlowe, Flaxton; daughter, Joy (Jeff) Kahn, Tye, TX; son, Stacey (Karen) Koster, Mayville, ND; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Bill Cochrane, Pat, Ron, Bruce and Dennis Kinsella; uncle and aunt, Doyd and Eleanor Reed, Eugene, OR; several nieces and nephews survive.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; four sets of foster parents and a brother, Jerald Cochrane.

Graveside memorial service will be held at the Flaxton Cemetery, Flaxton, ND at a date and time to be determined.
