Dennis Koski 1946 - 2006

Dennis Koski, 59, 1316 5th Ave. SE, Minot, ND, died Friday, June 23, 2006, in his home.

Dennis Alan Koski was born on August 12, 1946, the son of John and Phyllis (McChesney) Koski in Minneapolis, MN. He was raised in Brooklyn Center, MN, and Robbinsdale, MN, graduating from Robbinsdale High School in 1964.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 25, 1966. He received his advanced training as a jet engine mechanic from Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, before being assigned to the Minot Air Force Base. He was a member of the 5th Field Maintenance Squadron, where he progressed from a jet engine mechanic to jet engine flight line maintenance crew, jet engine flight line shift supervisor, jet engine quality control inspector, unit assistant non-commissioned officer in charge of engine conditioning and, finally, non-commissioned officer in charge of the engine conditioning section.

He had also served in Thailand during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. Other honors or awards he received include, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in August of 1986, after nearly 19 ½ years stationed or assigned at the Minot Air Force Base.

Dennis was married to Jennie Ellen Lord on October 15, 1966, at the Minot Air Force Base, ND. They made their home in Minot where together they raised a son, John Dennis, and a daughter, Debbra Ann. They were later divorced.

Dennis married Mary Ann Walz on April 10, 1992, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. They made their home in Minot. In August of 1986, he began his employment at the Minot Daily News. He was employed as a mailer-mechanic and later became the supervisor of the mailroom until ill health forced him to retire in 2005. He had been awarded employee of the month several times.

He was a lifetime member of the Minot VFW Post #753. He enjoyed collecting model cars and coins, and loved doing his yardwork.

Surviving family includes: wife, Mary Ann, Minot; children, John Dennis Koski, Elk River, MN, Debbra Ann (Mark) Westergren, Andover, MN, Heather Ann Stromberg and her fiancé, Erik Klug, Minot, and Suzanne Marie (Brad) Schoffstall, Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Tyler, Dallas, and Jacob Westergren, and Autumn, Krystle, and Michael Bradley Schoffstall; brother, John Edward "Jack" (Kathy) Koski, Pueblo West, CO; former wife, Jennie Koski, Elk River, MN; and niece, Nancy Koski, Parker, CO.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; and his niece, Diana Koski.

Funeral: Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday from Noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
