FATHER EDWARD F. KORTE
The vigil service will be Wednesday, July 11, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Harvey, with Father Jerome Kautzman officiating. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of Our Lady of Grace, Minot, with Father Paul Cervinski serving as presider and homilist. Pallbearers will be Bruce Korte, Brian Korte, Bob Keller, Doug Keller, David Keller, Mark Keller and John Baumgartner. Reader will be Lorrie Baumgartner, and gift bearers will be Father Eds nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Minot. Edward Francis Korte was born January 8, 1936, at Berthold, the son of Edward and Evelyn (Billeadue) Korte. He attended Berthold Public School and graduated from St. Leos High School, Minot, in 1954. He then attended St. Marys College in Winona, Minn., from 1955-59 and one semester at St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., in 1959. He received his theological training at Regina Cleri Seminary, Regina, Sask., Canada. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Bismarck on December 29, 1962, by Bishop Hilary B. Hacker at the Church of Our Lady of Grace in Minot. During his first years of priesthood he served as administrator at Immaculate Heart Church, Marmarth, and the mission of St. Mel, Rhame, for several months. He was then assistant at St. Joseph Parish, Mandan (1963-64), assistant at St. Mary, Hague (1964-66), assistant at St. Mary, New England (1966), assistant at St. Anne, Bismarck (1966-69), assistant at Christ the King, Mandan (1969-71), and chaplain at the Catholic Student Center, Minot (1971-73). Father Eds first pastorate was the Church of St. Thomas, Gladstone and the mission of St. Philips, Hirschville, where he served from 1973-74. During that time he was also on the faculty at Trinity High School, Dickinson. He then served as pastor at Epiphany Church, Watford City, and the missions of Our Lady of Consolation, Alexander, and St. Peter Canisius, Grassy Butte (1974-78). From 1978-83 he was pastor at the Church of St. Thomas, Tioga, and the missions of St. Michael, Ray, and St. Mary, Epping. From 1983-86 he was pastor at the Church of St. Philomena, Glenburn, and administrator of the missions of Holy Family, Deering, and St. John, Lansford. In 1986 he moved to Mohall to pastor the Church of St. Jerome and served as administrator of the missions of St. James, Sherwood and Sts. Peter and Paul, Tolley. He remained there until 1991 when he moved to Flasher, where he served for two years as the pastor of the Church of St. Lawrence, St. Gertrude, Raleigh, and St. Theresa, Carson. From 1993 to 1996 he was pastor at the Church of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, Stanley, and the mission of St. James, Powers Lake. For a short time in 1996 he was temporary administrator of the Church of St. Anthony in New Town. In 1996 he moved to Crosby when he was named pastor of the Church of St. Patrick, and the mission of St. Luke, Noonan. In early 2000 he served as associate pastor at the Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, for several months before being named pastor of the Church of St. Bonaventure, Underwood, and the mission of St. Catherine, Turtle Lake. In 2003 the Church of St. Edwin, Washburn, was added to his pastorate. He remained at those parishes until his retirement for health reasons in April of 2004. Father Ed then lived at Emmaus Place, the priest retirement home in Bismarck until moving to St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey in 2006, where he resided until the time of his death. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, spending time at his cabin and enjoying family gatherings. Being a friend and ministering to the staff and residents at St. Aloisius Nursing Home was very important to Father Ed. He is survived by one brother, Lawrence, Berthold; a sister
Irene (Mickey) Keller, Harvey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sister Angela
Korte, OSF, and Elaine Halvorson, and three siblings who died
in infancy or as a child; Mary, Arthur and Virgil Korte. |
