Vernon C. Korslien 1952 - 2007

Vern KorslienVernon C. Korslien, 54, Minot, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 6, 2007 in a Minot hospital.

Vern was born on December 16, 1952, the son of Johan and Darlene (Tryhus) Korslien in Minot, ND. He was reared and educated in the Minot area, graduating from Minot High School in 1970. He furthered his education at the Kundert Aviation School in Fargo, ND. Vern worked for Lockheed Aviation in Minot before entering the US Army on January 20, 1972.

On May 26, 1973, he married Kimberly Gorze in Minot, ND. Three days later, they moved to Alaska, where Vern was serving with the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on January 18, 1974. He worked for Wien Airlines in Alaska, before returning to Minot in 1975. He was the owner/operator of a bicycle shop, Cycle Sports in Minot, and was currently a Civil Service member, working on the Rivet Mile Program at the Minot Air Force Base.

Vern always had a love for music, in his early school years, performing in bands with his family and later teaching his three sons how to play musical instruments and starting the Korslien Family Band. This was the highlight of his life, and the one thing that Vern was the most proud of. Together they would play at events all over North Dakota, Montana and Canada, including the North Dakota State Fair, Norsk Hostfest, weddings, class reunions, or anywhere a celebration was to be.

He was an avid collector of cars, motorcycles, and musical instruments. Vern was never afraid to deal on something. He enjoyed working on his Harley-Davidsons, building ultra-light airplanes, puttering in his shop and was looking forward to his new business venture, an aircraft restoration company. He was a very giving person, always ready to lend a hand when needed. His ready smile and outgoing personality will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
