Linette Korman 1913 - 2011 Linette M. Stroebel was born September 27, 1913, a daughter of early Grilley Township homesteaders, Louis and Almaide (Desilets) Stroebel. She was raised on the family farm and attained her early education at Grilley Consolidated School. She graduated from Glenburn High School in 1932, and then attended Minot State University, where she received her Standard Teaching Certificate. Linette’s teaching career spanned 27 years. She taught in Renville, Bottineau and McHenry Counties, both in rural and city schools. Stories of her early years-traveling to work by horse, cleaning the school, firing the stove, and instructing all eight grades gave inspiring insight into early North Dakota education. Linette was united in marriage to Arthur Korman June 2, 1938. They began farming in the Maxbass area until Art was called to serve in the US Army during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, Art and Linette returned to farming and bought land in Grilley Township. Art passed away in 1986. Linette continued to live on the farm until the time of her death. She was a member of the Glenburn Senior Citizens, St. Philomena’s Catholic Church in Glenburn and the McHenry County Social Service Board. Linette enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing cards, dancing, traveling, visiting with friends and spending time with her longtime kitty friend of eighteen years, Putsy.
