Irene Kongelf, 87, 1400 5th Ave SE, Minot, ND, died Friday, March 20, 2009 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Irene was born on December 28, 1921, in Roros, Alberta, Canada, to Christian and Inga (Hjelden) Dyste. She was raised and educated in Oberon, ND, graduating from Oberon High School in 1939. She then moved to New Rockford, ND, where she babysat for Cora Bolinski and later moved to Seattle where she worked for the shipyards and Boeing. She returned to Oberon where she worked at a meat market before moving to Minot where she was a waitress. Irene married John Hannaford, Jr. in 1947. He died in 1959.

She later met Robert Kongelf and On July 3, 1965, she married him, in Minot where they lived.

She was involved in the The Women of the Moose, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Senior Citizens League. Irene was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Minot.

Irene is survived by her daughters: Jayne ( Roger ) Lund, Elk River, MN and Barbara (Don) Long, Minot; stepsons, Rick (Cris) Kongelf, Billings, MT; Terry (Bev) Kongelf and Rod (Sandy) Kongelf, all of Minot; grandchildren, Scott (Jen) Lund, Shanda (Matt) Campana, Marshall (Michelle) Lund; Emily Long and Christian Long. Stepgrandchildren, Micheal Kongelf; Katie, Steven and Kimberly Kongelf; Erin and Jessica Kongelf; greatgrandchildren, John, Jordan, Fayth, Arabella, Sofia, Eva, Ivy and Jamee. A number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her wonderful friends, Helen Sand and Mary Strandberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, John and Robert, a baby sister and three brothers.

Funeral: Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot. ***Note change of time of service***

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND

Visitation: Wednesday, from noon until 7 p.m.at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association.
