Esther I. Koebernick PhotoEsther I. Koebernick, 91, Minot, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at her residence.

Esther Irene Hauf was born December 7, 1918 on the farm of her parents, Christian and Helene (Henschel) Hauf, near Max, ND.  With her family she grew up in the Max area and attended grade school in a one room country school south of her parent’s farm.  She was baptized and confirmed in the rural St. Matthews Lutheran Church, south of her parent’s farm.

Through church activities she met Walter Koebernick of Kongsberg.  They were married in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, rural Max on June 2, 1940.

They established their home on the farm place of Walter’s father, near Kongsberg.  Esther was a devoted wife and mother.  They had three sons, Terry, Robert and Neil.  Esther was a homemaker all of her life, and she enjoyed doing work around the farm, including gardening, raising flowers, canning fruits and vegetables to feed the family during the winter.

She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kongsberg and was active as a Sunday School Teacher, was a leader of the children’s Christmas programs, was involved in the Ladies Aid Society, and was always very active in functions with in the church.

After Walter died in 1984 she moved into an apartment in Minot and joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  It was at St. Paul’s that she became very active with a group of ladies in making quilts that were sent into the mission field of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.

Our family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at the Edgewood Memory Care Unit, Manor Care Health Service, and Trinity Hospice for the extraordinary care given to Esther these past years.
