Edward E. Kockler, 69, Minot, died Monday, January 21, 2008 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Edward Eugene Kockler was born March 15, 1938 in Helena, MT, the son of Edward L. and Esther Jennie (Manley) Kockler. He was raised and educated in Helena.

Edward joined the United States Navy in September of 1955 at Helena, MT. He served during Vietnam and retired from the Navy in September of 1974 at Panama Canal as a First Class Illustrator/Draftsman.

He began working for Federal Civil Service as an Illustrator for the United States Army at Fort Clayton, Canal Zone Tropic Test Center. He was transferred to Minot Air Force Base, ND in September of 1976. On May 15, 1982 he married Vivian Locken. In September of 1991 he was transferred to North Island Naval Air Station, Coronado, CA and in September of 1994 he was transferred to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Oak Harbor, WA. He retired from Civil Service in September of 1996 and returned to the Minot area.

Edward enjoyed driving the pontoon and jet skis while spending time at their lake cabin on Rice Lake for 25 years. His main enjoyment was family which included cooking for grandkids and all of their friends and the rest of the family. He loved football, was an avid hunter and was very meticulous about his lawn and garden work. Edward enjoyed spoiling his wife.

He was a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753, Minot and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Loyal order of Moose in Minot. While living in Minot he was very active in the V.F.W. Pool League, playing every week. He was very proud of his pool team's accomplishment in the 2006-2007, when they were named Old Pro Champions, B Team.

Those who shared in his life, Wife, Vivian, Minot; son, Rodney V. (Judy) Peterson, Rice Lake, Douglas, ND; daughter, Darla J. (Randy) Mautz, Garrison, ND; three grandchildren, Levi Schmaltz, Minot, Jeredd Lakoduk, Minot and Paul Peterson, Rice Lake, Douglas, ND; one great grandchild, Jaiden Schmaltz; brothers, Gerald L. (Irene) Kockler, Helena, MT, and George M. (Rita) Kockler, Seattle, WA; sisters, Vanessa M. (Chuck) Tolson, Clancy, MT, and Debra Kockler, Helena, MT; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and sister Celia A. Calman.

Funeral: Friday, January 25, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot and Friday, one hour prior to the service in the church.

Burial: Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund in Minot, or to Trinity Hospice in Minot.
