Hilbert Knodel 1921 - 2011 Hilbert Knodel was born May 12, 1921, a son of Fred and Eva (Doctor) Knodel, in Strasburg Township of Sheridan County, rural Kief, ND. He was raised and educated in Kief area and attended Highland School District #2. Hilbert enlisted in the United States Army December 17, 1942. He proudly served his country during WWII and was in the Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. He was also stationed in Utah. He was honorably discharged January 30, 1946. Hilbert married Irene Mehl November 18, 1947, in McClusky, ND. They made their home on the Mehl family farm located near Kief, ND for a couple of years before moving to Minot in the early 1950’s. He worked for ND Concrete for a number of years and retired in April of 1979. He was a member of the Minot American Legion Post #26 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753, as well as the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, building things, remodeling, traveling to see his family, and playing Bingo. He was a gentle, kind, and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He always put others first, and would help anyone in need. Surviving family includes: wife of 63 years, Irene, Minot;
daughters, Claudia Sveen, Minot, and Charlotte (Bob) Adam, Garrison;
grandchildren, Kristen (Drew) Christianson, Jennifer (Cory) Nielsen, Tracey (Joe) Rogers, Sara (Jesse) Heredia, and Nick Adam;
great-grandchildren, Lily Christianson, Madelyn Nielsen, Presley and Jake Rogers, and Isabella and Mya Heredia; and a few nieces, nephews and cousins.
