Ruth Klimpel 1913 - 2010

Ruth was born October 5, 1913 in Minot, North Dakota, a daughter of Nels and Marit (Grothe) Thorson.  Ruth’s mother died when she was an infant and her father moved to Canada.  She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Iver and Ingeborg Grothe, and aunt, Emma Grothe Nelstad.  Ruth married Milton Klimpel in November of 1933.  They farmed until 1949 when they moved to Minot.  She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Minot.

Survivors:  daughter, Virginia (Duane) Walsh of Eau Claire, WI; sons, Roger (Jackie) Klimpel of Rochester, MN, Thomas (Sandra) Klimpel, Diamond Springs, CA; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson, Jane (Steven) Benesh and son, Jason Ousey and his son, Alex, Joan (Wade) Groves and children, Samantha and Drew, Tanya (Don) Powers, Chad Derheim and sons, Austin and Wesley, Darren Derheim and children, Amanda and Adam, Ryan (Tracy) Derheim and children, Garrett, Gavin and Grayson, Brandee Derheim and children, Alexus and Seyth.  She is also survived by her cousin, Norma Nelstad Fines, and together they grew up in the same household.  Ruth has three sisters, Kathy Ellig of LaMirada, CA, Merscedes Gauer of Scarborough, Ontario and Glenda Ortwein of Nanoose Bay, BC; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Milton on July 15, 2001; her parents, and brother, Norman.

Funeral:  Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation:  Thursday, February 25, 2010, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
