David John Kjos 1946- 2002

David John Kjos, 56, 709 West Central Ave, Minot, died of a massive heart attack Saturday at his home with his wife Tanya at his side.

He was born July 18, 1946, in Fargo, ND, to Luther S. and Loretta M. (Brandt) Kjos. He was reared and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1964. Following graduation, he attended one year of college at Minot State University before enlisting in the United States Army in July of 1967. He served as an intercept operator in Germany and Thailand during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge in the early 1970's, he returned to Minot where he worked as a newscaster at KMOT. He then continued his education at the University of North Dakota where he received his Bachelor degrees in both history and theatre. He taught Career Education in the Minot Public School system starting in 1976. He also was the Director of Theatre for 17 years at Central Campus and eventually became the media specialist there.

On June 20, 1987, he married Tanya VanLandingHam in Minot. David, Tanya, and their boys Benjamin, Skylar, and Kelsey lived in Minot where he continued working with the Minot Public Schools as the Secondary Technology Facilitator.

He was a gentle, witty, patient, loving, and hard-working husband and father which made him an excellent role model for his three sons.

He attended the Congregational United Church of Christ in Minot and sang in the church choir. He was also active in theatre in both Minot and Grand Forks. He sang in the Minot Chamber Chorale and had the role as Lord of the Manor at the Madrigal in Minot for over 20 years.

Survivors: wife Tanya Kjos, Minot; sons Benjamin, Skylar and Kelsey, all of Minot; mother Loretta Kjos, Minot; brothers Richard "Dick" Kjos, Bloomington, MN, and Doug Kjos and wife Sue, Minot; sister Barb Groutt and husband Tom, Minot; nieces Sarah, Molly, and Anne and nephews Peter and Stephen. He was preceded in death by his father Luther Kjos.

Funeral: Tuesday, 3:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot.

Visitation: Monday from noon until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
