Lulu Kirkelie • 1939 - 2011 Lulu Marie Lean was born on September 26, 1939, a daughter of Andrew and Isadora (Prellwitz) Lean in Clifford, ND. She was raised and educated in the Fargo area. She furthered her education by attending the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where she studied in Home Economics. On July 9, 1957, Lu was united in marriage to Frank M. Kirkelie Jr. They made their home in Donnybrook, where Lu worked as a cook for various establishments in the Carpio, Donnybrook and Kenmare area’s including the Donnybrook School and the Kenmare Hospital. Frank passed away on October 29, 2003. Following his death, Lu continued to live in Donnybrook and wintered in California where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Donnybrook, ND, the Donnybrook American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed baking especially for the holidays, and loved her riding lawn mower. Surviving relatives: Son: Hank (Dianne Huff) Kirkelie, Donnybrook, ND; Daughter Wanda Smith, and her children Linda Wilson, Karyn Smith, Brittney Smith; all of Bakersfield, CA; Lulu was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Lloyd Lean and an infant Gordon, two sisters Eleanor Holman and Vaida Olson and a niece Gail Sauter . Visitation: One hour prior to service at the church. Funeral Service: Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the United Methodist Church, Donnybrook, ND Burial: Donnybrook Cemetery, Donnybrook, ND
