Fern Kinyon 1923 - 2004

Fern Kinyon, 81, Minot, formerly of Des Lacs, died Monday, November 15, 2004, in ManorCare nursing home.

Fern was born August 28, 1923, in Burlington Township, Ward County, near Des Lacs, ND, the daughter of Elmer A. and Nellie (Green) Williams. She was raised and educated in Des Lacs and graduated from Des Lacs High School.

On February 27, 1946, she married Wren Kinyon in Great Falls, MT. They made their home on the Kinyon homestead near Des Lacs, where they farmed and raised their family. Wren died October 22, 1990. Fern continued to live on the farm with her grandson's dogs until 2002, when her declining health made it necessary to live at ManorCare.

Fern's grandchildren were a very important part of her life and she enjoyed every minute she spent with them. Her life also centered around homemaking, and she was very active in homemaker's groups at the local, county and state levels. Most of her time was spent with children, through teaching homemaking cooking classes, or through church activities, where she served as Sunday school teacher for a number of years and was counselor at Camp Bentley. Fern was a member of the Berthold Baptist Church, she was active with the Farm Bureau and the Ward County Extension Office and served as secretary treasurer for Rolling Green Cemetery for over 20 years. Fern enjoyed travel and visited many places in the U.S. through bus tours, national conventions and trips with her husband. Always wanting to keep busy, even as a resident at ManorCare, Fern served as an officer on the Resident Council and as the mailperson. She kept her mind sharp by playing trivia and other games. She was an amazing woman, farm wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
