Gladys I. Kiemele, 75, Minot, ND, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Gladys Inez Burrer was born on June 3, 1933, a daughter of Fred and Eva (Lammle) Burrer in Long Lake, SD. She grew up in Long Lake and later moved to Bismarck, ND, where she worked for the Patterson Hotel.

On June 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to William Kiemele in Long Lake, SD. They made their home in Minot, where they raised their family of three daughters-Connie, Vicki and Judy. Their life together included many summers at their lake cabin at Strawberry Lake and later motor homing with the Good Sam RV Club. Gladys and Bill wintered in Mesa, AZ. They were married 44 years until the time of Bill's passing on December 27, 1996. Gladys worked for Midwest Federal Savings and Loan for several years and later managed Michelle's Clothing Store in downtown, Minot.

Throughout her life she was very active in the community serving First Lutheran Church as President of her Women's Circle as well as past Treasurer of the Sakakawea Chapter of the Good Sam RV Club. Gladys was a board member of the Minot Commission on Aging and she loved volunteering at the Norsk Hostfest and Trinity Gift Shop. She also enjoyed gathering with the ladies of the Red Hat's Society. Gladys was a member of many service organizations, namely the Moose and Elks Lodges and Eagles Aerie.

She continued to amaze others with her ability to remember dates, names and travel routes. Gladys was often teased that a vehicle navigation system was unnecessary when traveling with her. Even though her retired life kept her very busy, she found time to watch her favorite game shows and play a good game of dominoes or cards.

Those who shared her life: Daughters: Vicki Stevens and her husband Rick, Judy Epps and her husband Terry, all of Minot; Grandchildren: Jessica Stevens, Preston and Ashley Epps;
Sisters, Esther Herman, Bismarck, ND and Hazel Merkel, Great Falls, MT;
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, daughter Connie Kiemele, brothers Edwin, Edmund and Alfred Burrer, sisters Frieda Herman and Irene Burkhardt.
