Jordis A. Kersten 1916- 2010 Jordis Alvina Waddle was born April 14, 1916 on the family farm, in Starbuck Township, Bottineau County, ND to John and Oline (Johnson) Waddle. She attended Thrums #5 country school. Jordis married Herman “Mike” Kersten on November 10, 1938, in the parsonage in Landa, ND. Following their marriage they made their home on the farm in Kane Township, north of Newburg. In the fall of 1977 they moved to Newburg. Mike passed away May 1, 1989. Jordis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Newburg. She was active in ladies aid, senior citizens, was an avid bowler for more than 40 years. She loved playing cards, gardening, yard work and clean windows. Jordis always had a cookie in the deep freeze when anyone stopped by. She loved her birthday parties with friends and all holidays celebrated in her home with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Jordis is survived by her five children: Larry (Sharon) Kersten, and their children Jeffrey (Sandy) Kersten and Jennifer (Jason) Neumann; Jerry (Bonnie Pease) Kersten and his children Jonathan (Shana) Kersten, Keri Kersten, Beau (Farrah) Kersten and Tadd (Laura) Kersten; Connie (David) Engg and their children Shana (Rod) Hoskin, Scott (Kelli) Engg and Stacey (Rob) Gilseth; LeAnn Klein (Richard Korslien) and her children Laurie (Brian) Mock and Travis Klein; Colleen Houmann (Ken Eraas) and her children Trent (Gina) Houmann and Tanner (Tricia) Houmann; plus 22 great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Even with poor eyesight, Jordis remembered dates and sent cards to all of her family, including the in-laws for every birthday and anniversary. In addition to her husband Mike, she was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Alice Waddle and Lorraine (Bernie) Torno, her brother, Oliver (Pauline) Waddle, daughter-in-law, Lee Kersten and son-in-law, Randy Klein. Funeral: Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 2:30 pm at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Upham, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, November 3, 2010 (today) from 2:00-7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Thursday, November 4, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Upham. Memorials are preferred to the St. John Cemetery Fund or the Newburg Senior Citizens.
