Leo F. Keller 1919 - 2006

Leo F. Keller, 86, Karlsruhe, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Leo was born November 2, 1919 in Karlsruhe, ND, the son of Joseph A. and Magdalene (Selzler) Keller. He was raised near Verendrye and attended Falsen Township school.

On September 1, 1942, Leo was drafted into the United States Army. He served with Company E of the 129th Infantry in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged December 15, 1944, and returned to North Dakota.

On June 21, 1945 Leo married Mary R. Bossert at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Karlsruhe. Following their marriage they made their home on the homestead farm near Verendrye, where they farmed their entire lives.

Leo was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe and served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He also served on the Falsen Township Board and the Falsen Township School Board. He served with the Karlsruhe Fire Department and was a member of the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District Board of Directors.

Survivors: Wife, Mary, Karlsruhe; children, Greg (Marie) Keller, Minot; Shirleyanne Keller, Minot; Sam (Joyce) Keller, Bismarck; David (Judy) Keller, Boise, ID; Chuck (Annette) Keller, Minot; Jacqueline Peltier, Kansas City, MO; Roberta (David) Simulcik, Buckley, WA; Antoinette (John) Brusseau, Denton, TX; Edwardina (Harold) Busch, Dallas, TX; Judith Lang, Bismarck, ND; Casey Keller, Portland, OR; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Edward (Alice) Keller, Bismarck; sister, Cecelia Varick, Caledonia, WI; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Magdalene Keller; brothers, Jack, Joe, Ben, Pius, Albert and Alex; sisters, Mary Weigel, Betty Thompson, and Mag McKenrick.

Funeral: Saturday, April 1, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe, ND.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2006, from noon to 7:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service at 7:00, all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Karlsruhe, ND.
