Harold Lavern Kay 1919 - 2010 Harold was born on September 20, 1919, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Thomas Kay and Ethel (Pohl) Kay. The majority of his growing-up years he spent in an orphanage. He was fortunate (because of the times) to have received an eighth grade education. Harold served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945. He proudly served his country during WWII, serving in France, England, and Germany, and was awarded the Silver Star. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to the St. Louis area and obtained employment with the McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company (now Boeing) where he worked on the production line of the Gemini Space Capsule and the F-4, F-15, and F-18 fighter aircraft, among others. He retired in 1984 after 33 years of service. Harold married Mildred LaVern Powers of St. Louis on June 12, 1946. Their loving union was blessed with six children; Harold A. Kay (Karen) of Peveley, MO; William E. Kay (Barbara) of Minot, ND; Martha Maguire of Independence, MO; Lelia Sentman of Colorado Springs, CO; Linda Hayeslip (Jeff) of St. Charles, MO; and John P. Kay (Rebekah) of Grand Forks, ND. He is survived by all six children and many grandchildren, step-grand children, and great grand children. Harold was preceded in death by Mildred in 1984. Harold made his home with his son, William in Minot, ND, following the death of his second wife, Delores in 2003. Harold was one of the founding fathers of the Assembly of God Church in Troy, MO and took great pride in his duties there of Sunday morning greeter. Harold’s favorite pastimes were reading National Geographic, Readers Digest, watching the History Channel on TV and attending the First Assembly of God Church in Minot. A Funeral Service will take place on Sunday, February 14, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Troy, MO. The McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy, Missouri will handle the services in Troy. |
