Darlene Kaul 1935 - 2011 Darlene Caroline Martinsen was born May 23, 1935, in Harvey, ND. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to Chris and Carrie (Faul) Martinsen. She was raised on the family farm located southeast of Benedict, ND, and educated at a country school in the area. She spent her younger years working on the family farm and caring for her parents. After moving to Minot in 1969, Darlene worked at City Bakery for several years and later for Sweetheart Bakery. Darlene married Ruben Kaul April 27, 1981, in Coeur d’Alene, ID. They made their home in Minot, where she continued to work for Sweetheart Bakery. She retired in September of 1991. Ruben passed away November 30, 2005. Following the death of her husband, she continued to reside in Minot. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Benedict, ND. Darlene enjoyed planting her garden every spring and maintaining it throughout the summer months. She was always very proud of her flowers and vegetables. Surviving family includes: son, Tom (Cheryl) Kaul, North Richland Hills, TX; daughter, Sharon (Oniel) Carter, Las Vegas, NV; 5 grandchildren, Angela (Rick) Johnson, Teresa (David) Roeper, Pauline (Tracy) Crawford, Allen (Angie) Dionne, and Farrah (Robert) Nuzzo; 14 great-grandchildren; niece, Betty Emerick, Bowbells; great-niece, Heidi Emerick, Bowbells; sisters, Viola Bradshaw, San Jacinto, CA, and Gladys Baluski, Ruso, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
