Helen Kassner

Helen Kassner,  92, Sawyer, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Helen was born at rural Sawyer, ND, to John and Emma (Volkman) Jantz.  She was raised and attended school near Sawyer.  She was united in marriage to Leo Kassner on March 27, 1933, in Sawyer.   She lived and farmed on a farm south of Sawyer with her family.  Leo died on March 9, 1970. 

She moved to Sawyer in the fall of 1970 where she was employed at the Sawyer School for 18 years as a cook.   
Helen was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, rural Sawyer and was currently a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Sawyer.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing, wood-working, cooking and spending time with her family.  Helen made many quilts over the years for her family

Helen is survived by her daughters, Arlene (Ruben) Buechler, Sawyer, Ardella (Melvin) Score, Minot, and  Shirley Brevig, Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Peggy (Mark) Hilson, Minot, Connie (Wade) Guttormson, Sawyer, Mark (Phyllis) Buechler, Sawyer, Brad Score, Minot, Debra (Ricky) Johnson, Rapid City, SD, Sandra (Shannon) Svenson, Rapid City, SD and 18 great grand children and 18 great grand children, Jonathon (Amber) and Stacy Larson, Jamie and Brandi Guttormson, Levi Buechler, Amber Buechler, Erin Guttormson, Sara Guttormson, Britney Buechler, Michael Buechler, Sarah Buechler, Anthony Beach, Emily and Erik Score, Andrea and Megan Johnson, Justus and Renn Svenson and one great great grandchild, Emma Larson, her sister-in-law, Alvina Buetow and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, son-in-law, Arlo Brevig, grandson, Dean Buechler and grand-daughter- Brenda Brevig; great granddaughter, Melissa Buechler; three brothers, August, Art and Edgar and seven sisters, Pauline, Wanda, Louise, Annie, Lucille, Edna and Alvina.  
Helen’s Funeral will be on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Sawyer, at 10:30 a.m.

Graveside Services will be on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at  1:30 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND

Visitation: Friday, May 21, 2010 from  noon to 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND
