Frances Karlsbroten • 1924 - 2007 Frances Mildred Todd was born June 17, 1924, the daughter of George and Mary (Ellingson) Todd in rural Douglas, ND. She was raised and educated in the Douglas area and attended Cleveland School District. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Douglas. In June of 1945, Frances went out to Seattle, WA, to work for Boeing. She returned to North Dakota in 1946, and resided in Douglas. Frances was married to Andrew M. Karlsbroten April 8, 1947, in Sidney, MT. They made their home in Douglas, where she operated the café on the west side of Douglas, and later operated the café on the east side with Elsie Thiel Carlson. She later worked at the grocery store and hardware store in Douglas for many years until it closed. She most recently worked at the Garrison Hospital, retiring from there in 1986. They continued to reside in Douglas until 1992, when she moved to Minot to live with her daughter, Shirley and family, and Andrew moved into the Trinity Nursing Home, Minot. Andrew passed away March 10, 1994, which was 13 years ago to the day on which Frances passed away. Her funeral will also be on the same day as her husband's, 13 years ago. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Douglas. Surviving family includes: daughters, Beverly (Don) Smestad, Minot, and Shirley (Clarence) Schlieman, Minot; grandchildren, Sara Smestad (Todd) Conrey, Jason and Josh Smestad, Amanda and Amber Schlieman; great-grandchildren, Tiara and Andrew Conrey; sisters, Mae (Rudy) Brickner, rural Douglas, ND, and Betty (Art) Schuer, rural Douglas, ND; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Alford, Minot; one niece, and five nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew; brother, Howard Todd; and sisters, Ruby Loorence and Amy Westby. Funeral: Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at
