Nora S. Kankovsky 1918 - 2010 Nora Seilda Olson was born February 1, 1918 on the family homestead in Mountrail County, in the Parshall and Plaza, ND areas. Nora graduated from Plaza High School and continued her education in Minneapolis, MN. On September 29, 1940, Nora married William Blaine Kankovsky in Plaza, ND. Following their marriage, they moved to Minot where Nora raised her three sons, before returning to work at Minot Drug as a waitress. She then worked at Kresge’s as a clerk for a time, before being promoted to assistant manager. Nora later worked at Jupiter Store as assistant manager. Following their retirement, Nora and Bill traveled by RV, visiting family and friends and spending five winters in Texas and Arizona. Together they were members of the Sons of Norway and volunteered for many years at the Norsk Hostfest in Minot. Nora loved to garden and especially enjoyed raising tiger lilies. Her other hobbies included creating beautiful beadwork, hairpin lace items and various craftwork. Nora was famous for her pineapple upside-down and angel food cakes, krumkake and Christmas cookies of all kinds. Her husband Bill died on March 11, 2001. Nora later moved to Somerset Court where she enjoyed playing bingo, various board and table games, and her weekly visits to the beauty operator. In addition, Nora logged over 100 miles annually with her walker in the hallways of Somerset. On August 18, 2005, she entered Trinity Homes, where she resided until her death. Nora was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot. She was a gracious lady with an infectious laugh and great sense of humor, sharing a dimpled smile easily. She was a constant source of encouragement and unconditional love and will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Those who shared in her life, sons, Sheldon (Nancy) Kankovsky, Minot, and Craig Kankovsky, Fort Wayne, IN; Cari Dodane, Woodburn, IN; grandchildren, Scott (Keri) Kankovsky, Shelene (Major David) Waters, Robin (Daron) Aldrich, Keith (Shirley) Kankovsky, Christopher (Anita) Kankovsky; great-grandchildren, Jessica Shelene Kankovsky, Katherine Lynn Kankovsky, Mackenzie Allison Kankovsky, Deidre Ottilie Kankovsky, Sophia Grace Waters, Kayleigh Nora Kankovsky, Luke William Kankovsky and Kyle Christopher Kankovsky and numerous nieces and nephews. Nora was preceded in death by her husband Bill; son Lyle Kankovsky; her parents; three brothers, Truman, Harlan and Norman Olson and a sister, Ruth Hector. Funeral: Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 1:30
p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot, ND. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association. Officiant: Rev. not attending the graveside service may begin the luncheon and
the family will join you when they return from the cemetery. |
