Raymond Dennis Kabanuk, 68, 1112 25th ST SE, Minot, died Friday, February 1, 2008, in a Minot hospital.

Ray was born on May 21, 1939, in Minot, to Carl and Helen (Tkachenko) Kabanuk and was baptized and confirmed at Grace Baptist Church. He was raised and educated on a farm near Benedict, ND, and in Minot. He graduated from Minot High School. After graduation, Ray worked as a carpenter at the Minot Air Force Base for four years.

On August 10, 1960, Ray married Fern Johnson and they had five children. The couple later divorced. In 1961, Ray went to work for Bridgeman Creamery as a driver and salesman. Ray retired in 1999.

On September 25, 1992, Ray married Cheryl Huizenga. The couple made their home in Minot.

Ray loved woodworking, making numerous items for family and friends. He enjoyed working in his flower garden, tending to his yard, cooking, and family gatherings.

Ray was a member of Teamsters Union Local 123, and the Minot Woodworkers Group.

Survivors: wife, Cheryl, Minot; children, Karla (Randy) Haugenoe, Williston, ND, Darren (Jeanine) Kabanuk, Burlington, ND, Denell (Robert) Johnson, rural Minot, Duane Kabanuk, Minot, Diann (Paul) King, Chandler, AZ; grandchildren, Ryan Fontaine, Becky, Aaron and Derek Kabanuk, Samantha and Levi Hanson, Leah, Amy, and Robbie Johnson and Perry King; twin brother, Robert Kabanuk, Minot; sisters, Bonnie Kabanuk, Minot and Janice (Floyd) Fouchey, Minot; mother-in-law, Gladys Huizenga, Minot; son-in-law, Stuart Fontaine, Minot; aunts and uncles, William Tkachenko Jr., Viola Frunz, Rusty (Ruthie) Tkachenko, Lila Dumdie, Helen Keeton, Doris Mittlieder, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry (Rhonda) Huizenga, Lee (Jane) Huizenga, Leon Huizenga, Dennis (Debra) Mittlieder, Shirley Storbeck, Larry (Deborah) Johnson, , Patty Larson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother, James Kabanuk, mother-in-law, Nina Johnson, fathers-in-law, Dale Johnson and Orrie Huizenga and brothers-in-law, Dick Storbeck and James Larson.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 4 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Visitation: Tuesday, February 5, 2008, noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
